In the past few years, I would have installed and uninstalled hundreds of software, and I cannot really think of an instance where I read the licensing agreement. I am sure almost all of you have also been spontaneous with the mouse clicks while installing software.
You spend a whole afternoon reading and understanding the license agreements of a number of software that were loaded on your Personal Computer. This is included open source software, freeware and the so-called commercial software.

The bigger reason why we choose commercial software over FOSS is, a perceived notion of reliability of packages software. However, the licensing agreement does not guaranty you any such rights. The real warranty you get is a 90-day warranty on the media, which really does not matter.
Most agreements very categorically tell you that you do not have any rights to hold the software vendor or its partners liable for any sort of damages that may occur, or will occur. The main reason why software vendor is bold enough to actually provide warranty on the application is the spate of real and fake suits that will immediately follow.
However, it is high time that software vendors looked at offering better warranty terms to users, making them more liable, thus ensuring more reliable software, But how they can achieve that remains a mystery.
